Liberty Garden Rededication Ceremony, Sunday, September 9, 2018

Rededication Ceremony of the Liberty Garden, created in 2002 as a memorial to 9/11 victim Sean Rooney, and expanded in 2009 to include a memorial to his widow Beverly Eckert. Beverly's sister, Margot Eckert, said she was "thrilled and full of gratitude" for the garden. The culmination of a project that began in March, 2018, on Giving Day, the annual 24-hour fundraising event supporting local nonprofits, led by Fairfield County’s Community Foundation. Volunteers led by landscape designer and GNA board member Scott McCauley have renovated the Liberty Garden, replacing the plantings and adding a new flag, flagpole light, and bronze plaque. In addition to the generosity of Giving Day donors on March 1, the project continued to attract support as word spread. GNA is grateful to those individuals, to the Glenbrook Fire Department, and to GNA business members City Carting and View Entertainment.

Annual Meeting, Wednesday, June 20, 2018

GNA members elected four new board members, Ronita Das, Zara DeLuca, Melanie Soper and Scott McCauley and re-elected officers Laurie Doig and Meryl McDaniel. The 2018-19 budget was adopted. Reps from Women on Watch, Ann Weiss and Harriet Weinstein, spoke on the importance of registering to vote and the August 14th primary. Girl Scouts from Julia A Stark school spoke about their Kindness Rocks project and brought examples of their work.

Jerry and Teddi Pia reflected on their decades running the Glenbrook Community Center as well as history of the building. GNA honored Jerry on his retirement and discussed what lies ahead for the Glenbrook Community Center. Thank you to First County Bank for donating the 06906 cake.

Commuter advocate, founder of the Commuter Action Group and author of weekly newspaper column "Getting There", Jim Cameron spoke about Connecticut's transportation crisis and possible solutions to our crowded trains and highways, higher fares and proposed service cuts. Quarterly Meeting, Wednesday, January 17, 2018

The program topic was transportation, traffic and parking issues in Glenbrook. James Travers, Transportation, Traffic & Parking Bureau Chief and Frank Petise, Traffic Engineer, gave an overview of Glenbrook and answered questions regarding the new fees for resident street parking passes and various resident traffic issues.
